This Friday, August 19 (Aug. 6th, Julian calendar) is the feastday of the Transfiguration of our Lord - Преображење Господње.  There will be great vespers on Thursday at 6 p.m. with Divine Liturgy on Friday at 10 a.m.  For those who are fasting, Friday is the only day during the Mother of God's Fast (which lasts from Aug. 14th to the 27th) when one can have fish.  Grapes are traditionally blessed in church on this day.  

Our Annual Church Picnic will be held this year at the Belojište picnic grounds (located at 62100 North Ave Ray, MI 48096-3354) this Saturday, August 6th. There will be music, dancing, and plenty of food and refreshments to go around. All are welcome! 

       The relics of the St. Nectarios of Aegina (†1920) are coming to Troy this Monday, May 23rd at Holy Trinity Romanian Orthodox Church located at 1850 East Square Lake Road, Troy, MI 48085-3389 (the site of our previous gatherings for Nativity and Vasrks-Pascha's receptions).  The relics should be ready for public veneration by 4:30 with an akathist service at 6 p.m.

This upcoming Saturday, February 12 (n.s.) / January 30 (o.s.), we will celebrate the feast of the Three Holy Hierarchs - Света Три Јерарха.  On Friday, Feb. 11th, we will have great vespers at 5 p.m. and on Saturday Divine Liturgy at 10 a.m.

Our dear parishioner †Marica Dimovski, 74, beloved wife of Niko, reposed in the Lord on January 30th.  There will be a pomen service on Monday at 7 p.m. at Wujek-Calcaterra Funeral Home located on 54880 Van Dyke Ave., Shelby Township, MI 48316 (25 Mile and Van Dyke).  On Tuesday, we will have the funeral service at St. Petka's at 11 a.m.

This Thursday, January 27th (Gregorian calendar) / January 14 (Julian), is St. Sava's Day.  We will have vigil on Wednesday, Jan. 26th, at 5 p.m. and Divine Liturgy on Thursday at 10 a.m.

It is customary that one reads the psalms over the reposed and we are looking for readers who would be willing to read the psalter over Fr. Stevan.  Any Orthodox person can read, male or female.  One can chose an hour, or two or more and can read in any language that is easiest for you: English, Serbian, Slavonic, Romanian, etc.  We need readers to cover the times from 1 p.m. - 7 p.m. this Friday and 9 p.m., Friday evening, all through the night until 9 a.m. -Saturday morning.  Please contact Fr. On Sunday, January 23rd, our Lord called his servant Protojerej-Stavrofor Stevan Petrovich into eternal repose. He was 91 years old.  Fr. Stevan was the spiritual founder and long-time parish priest of our parish, St. Petka - "Vratnica."  He was well-known among the clergy and the faithful for his fierce confession of Christ under Communist torture, his fiery sermons, and unwavering faith.  May our God, Who manifested Himself on the river Jordan, receive the soul of His faithful servant priest Stevan into His Kingdom and grant him Memory Eternal!  Funeral Arrangements: On Friday, January 28th, starting at 1 p.m., the doors of St. Petka will be opened for public viewing.  That evening, at 7 p.m., we will have the Funeral Service in our church with the giving of one's last kiss at end of the service.   On Saturday, Jan. 29th, there will be a Hierarchical Divine Liturgy with His Grace Bishop Longin followed by burial at Forest Lawn Cemetery - Detroit (Van Dyke & 6 Mile) and memorial luncheon at Serbian-American Hall-Detroit.
